Having completed his pre-college education in Çanakkale, he studied at Çerrahpaşa Medical School in Istanbul. He had worked as a physician at Bozcaada Health Centre starting from 2003 where he worked until he was elected as the Mayor of Bozcaada in March 2014.
Ethem Özgüven studied Film and TV at Anadolu University and Marmara University. Currently he is teaching CONTRA and Documentary at Bilgi University. As documentary maker he explores since the 1990s political, environmental resistance, human rights and labour rights movements. He created the concept of CONTRA a critical approach of social responsibility campaigns. His documentaries and video art was screened in more than 50 countries in many major festivals and platforms. He is currently coordinator of BIFED – Bozcaada International Festival of Ecological Documentary.
She holds an MA degree from the Media and Communications Department and Theatre Science Department (minor) from the Vienna University. With “contra” she was involved in campaigns on topics like disability, irregular migrants, violence. The documentaries and campaigns she collaborated with were shown in many countries and TV channels.
She was one of the founders of “FIMA Intercultural Video Workshops”, worked as an instructor, a curator, an international relations officer at “FIMA”, “National Environmental Script and Production Awards”, “Antalya Golden Orange International Short Film Festival” and “Karşı Sanat.” Her articles have been published in various journals and publications. Currently she is director of BIFED-Bozcaada International Festival for Ecological Documentary.
She earned her BA in Istanbul Bilgi University, Department of Television Reporting and Programming (TVRP). In 2014 she graduated from the Master in World Heritage and Cultural Projects for Development, a joint program by the International Training Centre of the International Labor Organization, University of Torino and Politecnico di Torino, Turin School of Development and in collaboration with UNESCO World Heritage Centre.
She graduated from Niğde University, Seafood Vocational Training Program in 2002. Currently she is studying Business Administration in the Open Education Faculty at Anadolu University. She works as an assistant of the Mayor at Bozcaada Municipality.
After her 4 year education at Anatolia University, which has the best Communication Faculty in Turkey; Demirtaş worked as a production-management assistant on different documentaries and TV programs. From 1992 to 2013 Şebnem Konçak Demirtaş, as a director and manager of program department, has directed many documentaries on popular TV channel in Turkey, such as TRT and 24 TV. She won ‘Turkish Journalists Community – The Best Documentary Award’, is one of the most prestigious award, with ‘Republic Train’ in 2000.
She has also worked as Media Director at TÜRSAK (Turkish Foundation of Cinema and Audio-visual Culture). She has also managed media relations at International Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival in 2005 and the others festivals.
She completed her undergraduate studies in the Translation and Interpreting Department at Bogazici University. During her studies, she worked as an intern at Komsu and Iletisim Publishing Houses and contributed to various documentary film festivals as catalog translator/editor. She continues her studies in the Sociology Department at Bogazici University and works as a free-lance translator and editor.
