Synopsis: Settled somewhere in nowhere in the south Ural region in Russia, the film tells the story of people living in a spot which is the most contaminated one by radioactive on earth. Unknown to a wide public, this region was repeatedly irradiated by different accidents of the nuclear facility Mayak, which was the first plant for the production of fissile material for nuclear weapons in the Soviet Union and which is still in operation. Rather than an investigative flick, the filmmakers’ attempt is to find a cinematic translation for a danger that is neither perceptible nor visual and to capture the strength of people and nature who have to cope with it.

Director: Sebastian Mez was born in 1982 in Essen, Germany. After graduating from high school he was an intern at a film production company in Düsseldorf. In October 2007 Sebastian began to study at Filmakademie Baden Württemberg in Ludwigsburg specializing in directing. His first short documentary “Clean Up” was shown at more than 40 international film festivals and won several awards. His film “Ein Brief aus Deutschland,” which takes a special approach onto the subject of modern slavery and prostitution in Europe, won the international middle-length film in the competition at Visions du Réel in Nyon in 2011. His first feature “Metamorphosen” premiered at the Berlinale 2013 that was followed by numerous festivals like BAFICI, Indie Lisboa and CPH:DOX. Sebastian lives and works in Berlin.
