Synopsis

How can a young person eager to discover their roots connect with their heritage without speaking the family tongue? Fortunately, a Tilapia enters the scene. Standard tilapia are freshwater fish native to Africa and tropical regions. The fish in this film, however, is quite extraordinary. It holds dual citizenship, for example, speaks multiple languages, and tells stories. It falls to this fish to mend the young protagonist's disconnect from the past and guide them back to their origins.

This short film tackles themes of identity and belonging through dialogue in both French and Kinyarwanda.

Director Biography

Crispin Yanisi

Young filmmaker from Aalst who completed his bachelor’s degree in Film Studies at KASK & Conservatorium in Ghent, where he is also pursuing his master’s degree in film. He draws inspiration from everyday life, painting, literature, photography, music, and conversations. He has made three short films.
