Synopsis

Humanity’s greatest threat!

Artificial intelligence is often framed this way. But beyond the tech giants developing it, the algorithms and robots, and the social and political anxieties it raises, lies a more fundamental question: What makes us human? The film pursues this question through the tools of science, poetry, and art. It explores whether AI can move beyond basic algorithms and possess human qualities such as empathy, imagination, and cooperation. Spanning the globe and connecting different fields of knowledge, it examines how we learn and what defines us as humans.

If used collectively and consciously, could AI help build a positive future for humanity rather than a dystopian one?

Director Biography

Valerio Jalongo

Italian filmmaker and philosophy graduate. He studied film at the Gaumont Film School and the University of Southern California. He won the De Sica Prize for a docu-drama, while his 1997 feature debut received awards at several international festivals. One of his later films was selected for the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). His 2017 documentary, filmed at CERN in Geneva, received international acclaim. A 2020 documentary, filmed over 15 years with a group of students, won several awards and received a Nastro d’Argento nomination.
