One of most important masters of Turkish printing art, Fethi Kayaalp was born and raised in Bozcaada. As an artist who has spent most of his life there, he is a prominent figure for the island. His works and guidance extending over half a century have had an immense role in preserving the nature and architectural structure of the island along with its genuine identity. Since the early 1970s, a lot of architects, painters and sculptors from academy circles, with the recommendation and encouragement of Fethi Kayaalp, came to live on this tiny island, an unknown and untouched paradise then. They built houses that respected the nature and the local architecture. It was thanks to his change that Bozcaada came to be known and loved by intellectual circles and be protected from major tourism movements and summerhouse constructions to a large extent. It also brought about a raised awareness for the environment in the islanders. Fethi Kayaalp maintains his life as a unique witness to social history with his extremely vivid memory, as a leading environmentalist with his humble and wise personality and as an ever-prolific artist.
